1) WHY ARE MY WINDOWS STEAMY, FOGGY AND WET BETWEEN THE PANES?
In a ‘double glazed’ window, two panes of glass are sealed together with an air pocket between them. “Steamed up” or “fogged up” glass is an indication that the air tight seal has broken. This can happen from age, physical damage or inferior original construction. It is important to know that we can replace the glass only without having to remove any other part of your window.
2) WHY DO MY WINDOWS 'SWEAT'?
The appearance of moisture on the inside of a window is a common problem, especially on single glaze aluminum or wood windows. What we must remember is that windows don’t really “sweat” on their own.
The moisture which shows up on your window originates from excess water vapour in your home. This can come from hot baths or showers, doing laundry, cooking, and even the warm air you exhale - in simple words - living ! When you have too much of this humid air in your home, the water vapour will condense on the coolest part of your home - your window.
New windows made with superior use of new modern technology such as heat transfer resistant materials as well as high-tech designs are doing wonders to insulate your home’s interior from the cooler exterior. If your home however continues to show excessive moisture, you may still need to remove humidity through the use of fans or a dehumidifier.
3) HOW MUCH BETTER WILL MY HOUSE RETAIN HEAT WITH DOUBLE GLAZED WINDOWS?
Depending on the type of windows we are replacing, the amount of glass your home has, and other potential heat loss causes, YOUR SAVINGS CAN BE VERY DRAMATIC!!!
If you think your windows are drafty (which you can test by holding a lit match around the edges and watching the flame flicker or extinguish) there certainly will be considerable savings. Single pane windows transfer cold air by transmission as well as improper, old and broken seals that allow for cold drafts. You may be losing heat in many ways, so count on gaining efficiency in many areas.
4) WHAT OTHER ADVANTAGES ARE THERE?
Eliminating uncomfortable drafty areas in each room, sealing against pollen and other exterior air-borne allergenics, noise reduction from outdoor traffic and ambient noise.
All of our 'ENERGY-WISE' windows are manufactured with sturdy, well-tested and highly engineered locking systems that offer significantly increased security for the modern homeowner -- a must in consideration of the times we live in. Double glazed windows also act as a deterrent to thieves. Since double glazed windows are much harder to break, intruders are hindered from getting inside, which increases the probability of their being detected and caught in the middle of their crime.
5) HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REPLACE A WINDOW IN MY HOUSE?
Including frame replacement -- one average-size window will take about two hours (including removing your old frame, installation of new ENERGY-WISE windows, finishing, caulking and clean up). Simply replacing glass in a broken window is a very easy job and takes about twenty minutes for our professionals.
6) HOW MUCH CONSTRUCTION MESS IS LEFT OVER?
Modern takes pride in their reputation of having very efficient, clean and tidy employees. Any construction mess that does occur will be cleaned up and removed by Modern employees at the end of the job.
7) CAN WINDOWS BE INSTALLED WITHOUT CUTTING MY HOUSE, MY SIDING OR MY STUCCO?
Of course! Our renovation window series works to your advantage because we don't have to break your home's moisture barrier or affect the insulative seal. Interested to see how non-intrusive our installation process is?
